Cambridge, MA – Harvard University today has announced the resignation of Claudine Gay, the institution's President, amid widespread criticism of her recent comments pertaining to anti-Semitism. The university faced significant pressure to take action after President Gay suggested that "calling for the genocide of the Jewish people is only considered harassment and bullying in certain contexts." Prominent figures from across the political and international landscape, including President Joe Biden, Republican House Speaker Mike Tyson, and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, voiced their strong opposition to this stance. Despite the Board's initial decision against her resignation, the overwhelming backlash led to the ultimatum given to President Gay: resign or face termination. Choosing the former, her immediate resignation encompasses all her roles, including her position as Senior Fellow of the Society of Fellows, ex officio, and Wilbur A. Cowett Professor of Government and of African and African American Studies.
